For Youth Ages 8-17

Our group-structured program is dedicated to preventing the need for higher levels of care in Kentucky's children and teens struggling with significant behavioral and emotional challenges.

Our mission is to arm each participant with mental health skills, so they're able to thrive in every facet of their lives - be it at home, school, or within the community. Through intensive skill-building, peer interactions, and a range of holistic therapeutic activities, we set the stage for bright futures and mentally strong people.

Key Program Benefits

The ultimate aim of the RISE program is to alleviate the symptoms and behaviors associated with mental health diagnoses, guiding participants toward reclaiming and enhancing their functional abilities.

  • Keeps our youth out of higher levels of care whenever possible, allowing them to maintain in their homes, schools and communities. This avoids additional trauma and attachment issues from forming.
  • Teaches kids the critical social, interpersonal, emotional, crisis, coping and daily living skills to combat their mental health diagnosis and function at their best possible level. It provides a sustainable toolkit that can carry with them through life.
  • Group setting allows for necessary peer interactions where skills are practiced, modeled, mentored and processed. Further, it fosters a sense of belonging and recognition that they're not alone. This provided connection is a key component of mental well-being.
  • Individualized treatment plans, including measurable goals and a discharge and relapse prevention plan, ensures that each child’s unique needs are met and that they are safe. 
  • RISE fosters the learning of social, interpersonal, emotional, crisis, coping and daily-living skill development to instill self-reliance. We couple this with improving Emotional Intelligence skills to deepen self-awareness and empathy, both of which are crucial for managing emotions and nurturing relationships. This combination is vital; it equips participants to handle daily challenges and build resilience, laying a foundation for a well-adjusted, fulfilling future.

Managing Emotions and Self-Expression

  • Art Therapy & Expressive Skills: Diverse art forms boost self-expression, foster emotional dialogue, and elevate self-esteem through creative achievement. 
  • Mindfulness Skills: Practicing mindfulness sharpens focus, uses meditation for stress relief, and cultivates present-moment awareness to improve emotional regulation.
  • Understanding Symptoms of Mental Illness: We educate on various mental health conditions to promotes recognition of personal mental health symptoms, and nurtures self-empathy and understanding towards others.
  • Emotional Regulation Skills: We focus on managing intense emotions, promoting healthy expression, and sustaining emotional balance in difficult situations.

Coping Strategies & Resilience

  • Coping with Depression, Anxiety and Other Symptoms: Our approach equips children with targeted strategies to manage symptoms, builds resilience to emotional distress, and cultivates a supportive peer network.
  • Music Paired with CBT: Our curriculum integrates music with cognitive-behavioral methods, employs rhythm and melody for emotional learning, and encourages expression and relaxation through music.
  • Crisis Coping Skills: We provide quick-response strategies for crises, build a personal emergency emotional toolkit, and sharpen rapid thinking through role-play.
  • Anger Management Skills: We teach constructive anger management, trigger awareness with prevention tactics, and positive energy channeling activities.

Social Skills & Practical Life Training

  • Social Skills & Peer Relationships: We teach and practice communication skills for positive peer relationships, encourage teamwork through interactive activities, and reinforces these skills in the group setting.
  • Self-Esteem & Empowerment: We nurture a positive self-image, boost confidence through targeted empowerment activities, and celebrate individual strengths and accomplishments.
  • Activities of Daily Living & Domestic Skills: Our program provides training in daily living routines and household chores, improves self-sufficiency in cooking and cleaning, and uses simulations for practical life skill application.
  • Independent Living: Skill-building covers money management basics, planning for independence, and practical exercises in budgeting and resource management for age-appropriate participants.

Although RISE is an intensive program, it is not a crisis service.

Anyone with active psychosis or behaviors that could be immediately harmful to themselves or others would not be appropriate for our program and may need a more restrictive level of care.
