Hi! I'm Kristen Hoskins, LPCC
As a therapist, I strive to create a safe and nurturing space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I believe in tailoring each therapy session to the unique needs and strengths of my clients, blending different techniques to support them on their path to healing and growth.

Kristen's Purpose Statement: Unveiling Her "Why" as a Therapist
I wanted to become a therapist after attending therapy myself, and I found it helped me tremendously through a difficult time in my life. For as long as I can remember, I've had a deep-seated passion for helping and caring for others. Even during my undergrad and grad school years, while I explored various jobs and fields, I always felt drawn to the idea of supporting people through their struggles and journeys.
It wasn't until my internship in therapy that I truly felt validated in my career choice. As I began to see clients and listen to their stories, I knew I had found my calling.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at my Experience as a Therapist
One of my favorite therapeutic techniques to use in sessions comes from cognitive behavioral therapy-- which is the idea that the way we think about something affects our feelings and behaviors. I like to help clients challenge "cognitive distortions" aka thinking errors that we all do as humans-- such as imagining the worst case scenario, or engaging in all-or-nothing thinking. I find that once a client is able to re-frame their thinking errors, they have an immediate sense of relief and feel better.

A Memorable Success Story
I had a client who was experiencing daily debilitating panic attacks that were negatively affecting their quality of life. Using accelerated resolution therapy techniques targeting their anxiety, the client was able to get back to a normal level of functioning again and just do typical stress reduction and maintenance in therapy.

Maintaining Balance: How I Prioritize Well-Being to Serve Clients, Myself, and My Family
I maintain work-life balance by making sure I practice self-care regularly and do things that "refill my cup." I also try to be self-aware and know when I need to take a break so that I can replenish and strive to be the best version of myself. I practice deep breathing techniques regularly, as well as other techniques I recommend to clients, to help myself stay centered and mentally strong. I like to prepare for sessions by doing mindfulness exercises for at least 10 minutes. At the end of the day, I often unwind with a bubble bath or warm shower.
