Hi! I'm David Scott, LMFT

My experiences have deepened my insight and equipped me with new approaches to help individuals navigate and overcome their obstacles, even when they feel overwhelmed.Ā I will admit that even therapists can get stressed out and deal with anxiety and depression like others and we are not "perfect" (whatever that means) but I feel that can be a positive since I know that I cannot relate to "perfect" people and our own struggles can help us empathize and relate to the people that we work with.Ā -David

David's Purpose Statement: Unveiling HerĀ "Why"Ā as a Therapist

Throughout high school and college, I found myself in the role of a trusted advisor, often sought out by peers seeking guidance and perspective. However, my journey towards becoming a professional therapist took a winding path. After completing my undergraduate degree, I spent 12 years working in ministry, where I encountered individuals facing challenges beyond my expertise. This realization prompted me to pursue a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy/Professional Counseling, embarking on a transformative two-year journey. Since then, I have worked with both youth and adults across diverse settings, including student counseling centers, residential treatment facilities, and crisis intervention roles.Ā  Now, I firmly believe that working as a counselor is my true calling, fulfilling my purpose to support others in reaching their fullest potential.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at my Experience as a Therapist

There are several I like but maybe Thought Disputing and Thought Replacing because I have seen them work for me and others who have as their default negative and damaging thought about oneself that are often not true and are certainly not helpful.

A Memorable Success Story

I worked with a man with crippling anxiety that couldn't spend more than 5 minutes in a store without getting overwhelmed and leaving that was shocked to realize he was spending 20 minutes now in a store. I worked with a couple where he felt unheard and unappreciated and there was an affair that it seemed it would end the marriage but she was able to communicate and share her hurt and how this affected her and he was able to work through the what led to the affair and as a couple they were able to make changes and communicate and find forgiveness and rebuild trust and grow together.Ā -David

Maintaining Balance: How I Prioritize Well-Being to Serve Clients, Myself, and My Family

While I like doing what I do for a career I try to remember that I am more than my job as I am also a father and husband and other things as well. I like to do things in my down time (non-work time) that I enjoy and that relax and recharge me - like watching anime with my kids, reading, listening to music, going to garage sales or thrift stores with my wife, watching football, going to church, or attending a small group. These are things that encourage me and allow me to destress and be ready for another week of meeting with my clients.
