Hi! I'm Sara Gambrell, CSW

Every night as I wind down and review my day, I'm grateful for the brief text exchange I have with my son (who lives out of town at college). I send him a heart emoji to tell him in short-hand that I love him and am going to bed; he sends me one in return. This reminder to check in with our loved ones and receive small signs of the love in return reminds me why I am there for people in relationships, especially clients. We all crave connection.Ā -Sara

Sara's Purpose Statement: Unveiling HerĀ "Why"Ā as a Therapist

Growing up I always knew I was an empathic person who was profoundly aware that people around me, and myself included, deserved more informed support to heal, grow, or become the person they want to be. I have a special passion for supporting new or struggling parents, and individuals learning to understand themselves and in the world as part of the LGBTQ community. I love holding a space for people to find and express their voice, all the while exploring lifeā€™s journey as they face tough hurdles. -Sara Gambrell, CSW

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at my Experience as a Therapist

I love using playful humor about myself to disarm a client in conversation - to help them to realize that we don't have to take ourselves so seriously all the time as we work on really hard stuff. I also love to throw out an open-ended question or statement, and then hold the silence. It can lead to profound conversations going forward.Ā -Sara Gambrell, CSW

A Memorable Success Story

One of my first clients was a young adult struggling to make sense of life with severe symptoms of depression. She was adamantly opposed to trying any medication to help alleviate her symptoms. After asking her to journal about her feelings about anti-depressant medications, and reframing her family's influence on those feelings, she was finally able to give herself permission to try medication that ultimately lifted the debilitating fog over her.Ā

Maintaining Balance: How I Prioritize Well-Being to Serve Clients, Myself, and My Family

I try to be as organized as possible - charting my personal, family, and work commitments on my schedule so that I'm prepared for my day. I make sure to build in time for my own self-care. I also play the clarinet and other musical instruments; I love musicals of all sorts; I walk & hike for my mental health.Ā I try to walk an hour every day as a habitual way of releasing my stress, sorting my lingering thoughts and feelings, and making space for new conversations and experiences.Ā -Sara Gambrell, CSW
