Hi! I'm April Fugate, LPCA

I strive to create a genuine and approachable space where clients feel comfortable discussing anything without hesitation. I’m not here to be unrelatable—I’m just a regular person, the kind you might see walking through Walmart, sometimes even in pajamas. I embrace individuality, from my tattoos and piercings to my love for travel. And if I could, I’d rescue every dog in the world. My goal is to connect with others authentically, fostering a judgment-free environment where you can truly be yourself. -April

April's Purpose Statement: Unveiling Her "Why" as a Therapist

Pursuing a career in counseling was never part of my original plan—nor was furthering my education beyond high school. However, life has a way of presenting unexpected opportunities. Early in my college journey, I quickly discovered my passion for understanding people, exploring what drives human behavior, and learning how the body responds to life’s challenges.

Through this process, I gained valuable insight into myself and realized my desire to help others grow and discover their own strengths. My goal is to create a welcoming and safe environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves openly. By working collaboratively, we can navigate barriers and identify areas for growth using a variety of therapeutic techniques tailored to each individual’s needs.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at my Experience as a Therapist

Being a mental health therapist is incredibly rewarding. I find great fulfillment in hearing success stories and getting to know each individual I work with. My approach to therapy is often relaxed and engaging, creating a comfortable space where clients can openly express themselves. Sessions are not only meaningful but can also be enjoyable, fostering a supportive and uplifting environment for growth. -April Fugate, LPCA

A Memorable Success Story

I have worked in the mental health field for over a decade, providing support to both children and adults. One experience that has always stayed with me is working with a young high school student who dreamed of going to college but lacked the support and resources to make it a reality. Coming from a lower-income family that did not encourage higher education, she felt lost and uncertain about her future.

As a first-generation college student myself, I deeply understood her frustration. I did everything I could to guide her—helping her navigate the enrollment process, connecting her with resources, and advocating for her potential. Years later, she reached out to me on social media to express her gratitude. She had not only enrolled in college but had gone on to achieve incredible things as a talented artist. We still keep in touch from time to time, and her story is a powerful reminder that even the smallest acts of support can make a life-changing impact. -April

Maintaining Balance: How I Prioritize Well-Being to Serve Clients, Myself, and My Family

Self-care is essential for maintaining overall well-being, and I strongly encourage exploring new activities and interests to nurture yourself. Personally, I make it a priority to take breaks when needed and cherish time with my family. Whether it’s attending a concert, going for a hike, or simply enjoying a drive with the windows down on a beautiful day, I find joy in the small moments. For me, little things like an iced coffee are non-negotiable—they help keep me feeling balanced and refreshed. -April, LPCA
